Skimming Bluet (Enallagma geminatum)

Identification: A small black type of bluet, the male below on a slow vegetated stream in Shennandoah County, Virginia and the female below from a vegetated storm water management basin in Henrico County, Virginia. Note the wavy blue coloration on the lateral view of segment 2 which is diagnostic of the species. The female has a pair of blue spots on the dorsal side of segment 8.
