Ring-necked Duck
Identification: A short compact diving duck with a peaked crown,
dark back and prominently banded bill. The male when observed
in "good" light has a purplish sheen to the head, yellow eye,reddish
eye ring and conspicous white area behind dark chest
when observed on the water. The female has distinctive white area behind the
bill on the face, a white ring around the eye.
