Identification: A large stocky buteo with red tail. In the west there are several color morph varying from light to intermediate to dark. The morphs at the light end have pale chest, belly and underwing coverts with some diffuse streaking or rosiness to the dark phase with solid dark belly, chest and underwing coverts.
