Today while working in Fredericksburg, Virginia I noted a Variegated Fritillary sunning itself in the 42 degree temperatures before the projected storm.

I quickly visited Swan Lake in the City of Richmond this afternoon and noted four (4) Northern Rough-winged Swallows both flying over the lake and perching in an adjacent tree.

I casually visited some areas in Charles City County today.  The Red-tailed Hawk (albieticola) that has been noted for the winter season continued on the visit today.

I also got to enjoy a small male Sharp-shinned Hawk and a pair of Osprey.

Common Ravens (2) were observed at the 295 and 64 interchange near Short Pump, Va tonight. They have not been observed there several times over the last couple of weeks.  I suspect there is potential for breeding to take place in this area with the bridge structures.

Spring Peepers were actively singing on my nightly walk in western Henrico County.

I visited Louisa County, this morning.  I arrived at 5:50 a.m. and quickly heard and observed 4 Short-eared Owls which continue to frequent the East Jack Jouett Road area.  Many of the previously observed Red-tailed Hawks appear to have already started their migration north.  Waterfowl included continuing Tundra Swans (3) and several hundred Canada Geese.

I ventured south to Colonial Heights today to see if the gull flock had experienced any species and/or number transformation.  Lesser Black-backed Gulls were quite obvious with 16 being noted in various plumages.  Two (2) Laughing Gulls were also observed in the flock.  No uncommon species were noted during the visit.
