January 2017

January 1, 2017

I visited several locales during New Year’s Day inclusive of eastern Henrico County, the City of Hopewell, Charles City County, Chesterfield County, Louisa County and a drive through Goochland County.  Waterfowl were the birds of the day as Turkey Island Road in eastern Henrico again was hosting the Snow Goose flock as well as a large Canada Goose flock.  Inclusive in the flocks were 4+ Ross’s Geese, Richardson’s Goose, Cackling Goose, White-fronted Goose and a melanistic Canada Goose.  Charles City County had several Palm Warblers, an Orange-crowned Warbler and 19 Least Sandpipers.  Louisa County is playing host to many Red-tailed Hawks offering good opportunities for photography and study.
