Lesser Scaup
Identification: The female has a general overall brown plumage with white encircling the base of the bill. The blue gray bill gives the birds their common or hunter's name of "Blue Bill". The head is peaked and not rounded as found in the Greater Scaup.
The male has the same peaked head appearance, the back has heavier barring than that of the Greater Scaup and in flight the white on the wings is principally on the secondaries.
