Greater Scaup

Identification: Note the rounded head in both the male and female below, the very similar Lesser Scaup has a peaked appearance toward rear of crown. In flight the Greater Scaup shows a more extensive white color band extending from the secondaries into the primaries than the Lesser Scaup in which this a gray coloration. In good light the head of a male Greater Scaup can have a greenish cast but this can also occur with Lesser Scaups.
