Gray Petaltail (Tachopteryz thoreyi)
Identification: Large dragons with gray thorax and black stripes; abdomen a mixture of black and gray patterns, the eyes are separate from each other and the wings turn amber with age and have long thin stigmas. They usually perch vertically but one of the below was noted perching briefly on an adjacent dirt road on several occasions.
The two males below were noted at a seep in Augusta County, Virginia during mid-July, 2008.
