Gomphus parvidens- Piedmont Clubtail
Identification: Male- Note that the occiput is horizontal in parvidens and convex in abbreviatus. The cerci appears longer in parvidens with a small vertical tooth near the end of each while abbreviatus has a heavier tooth on the cerci which angles posteriorly. In parvidens the anterior thoracic stripe is incomplete with yellow between where the two thoracic stripes would be indicated and abbreviatus has an mostly complete anterior thoracic stripe and complete posterior lateral thoracic stripe and the area between the thoracic stripes is slightly grayish. The face of both is unstriped and yellowish in color.
