Band-winged Meadowhawk (Sympetrum semicinctum) Identification: The legs are black, the face is brown, the thorax is brown except for red dorsally in male, the abdomen is red with black laterally on S4-S10 and some black dorsally on S9, S10. The basal portion of both wings is amber to brown.
The photographs below (upper three are males and the last is a pair in tandem) were taken in Highland County, Virginia in late August.
