American Oystercatcher

Identification: Large, stocky shorebirds with long stout bills. In adults note the red bill, dark head and mantle and white underparts with the gleeming yellow eye encircled by red. Juvenile birds have red bills with dusky black tips for about 1/2 their length and the mantle color is grayish with a transistion to black.
