American Golden Plover
Identification: Large, stocky plovers which in alternate plumage have black and dark crowns when compared to Black-bellied Plovers. In flight, they will differ from Black-bellied Plovers by having a dark rump and grayish underwings with no black axillaries.
The bird below is an immature. Note the overall slim appearance, the long legs, slim bill, the white supercilium and the checkered upperparts.
